We are pleased to announce a joint venture between the VA Office of Research Development (ORD) and NSF. A Webinar will be held on October 4, 2017 at 1pm EST with multiple goals: Introduce and familiarize currently funded NSF investigators to VA ORD as a potential next step in translating their NSF research into clinical care for Veterans; Identification of research areas funded by NSF that have the potential to translate to VA research and into clinical care. Funding opportunities now available for the NIH Science of Behavior Change (SOBC) Common Fund Program
The Science of Behavior Change (SOBC) Common Fund Program advances a mechanisms-focused, experimental medicine approach to behavior change research. Currently, awardees in the SOBC Research Network are developing, adapting, and testing experimental manipulations meant to engage specific health-behavior-related targets, developing assays intended to verify target engagement, showing that these putative targets can be influenced by a manipulation, and that thus changing target activity leads to behavior change. To encourage the adaptation, validation, and translation of these assays in a broader range of ongoing studies and populations, the NIH is now inviting applications to four available Funding Opportunity Announcements (FOAs) that involve using one or more of the SOBC Research Network assays.

The revision application funding opportunities are open to those conducting active NIH-supported clinical trials awarded as an R01, U01, or R34. Applicants need to propose to use at least one SOBC Research Network assay to measure engagement of a putative target identified to be relevant to the parent clinical trial. The R21 funding opportunity is designed to support new awards using at least one SOBC assay to measure engagement of a relevant health behavior target or mechanism of action.

NIH Seeks Comment on Proposal to Update Data Management of Genomic Summary Results
Today, the NIH issued a notice in its Guide to Grants and Contracts (https://grants.nih.gov/grants/guide/notice-files/NOT-OD-17-110.html) seeking public comment on a proposed update to the data management of genomic summary results under the NIH Genomic Data Sharing (GDS) Policy. The proposed update to the GDS Policy’s data management practices would help support NIH’s goals to promote scientific advances and protect research participants’ privacy interests by allowing genomic summary results from most studies to be provided via a public, rapid-access model.
NIH is seeking public feedback regarding the proposed data management update and encourages comments from all stakeholders, and is especially interested in hearing from members of the general public, research participants, and/or the broader patient community. Interested stakeholders can view the proposed update and provide comments by visiting https://osp.od.nih.gov/gsr-rfi/. Comments will be accepted until October 20, 2017.
