• Translational Neural Devices (UG3/UH3/U44) (Next Due Date: February 21, 2018): The purpose of this Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) is to encourage applications to pursue translational activities and small clinical studies to advance the development of therapeutic, and diagnostic devices for disorders that affect the nervous or neuromuscular systems. The translational device activities, including translational bench and animal studies, are expected to lead to submission of an Investigational Device Exemption (IDE) to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) or Institutional Review Board (IRB) application for a Non-Significant Risk (NSR) study. This cooperative agreement will also support the subsequent small clinical trial to collect safety and effectiveness data required to support a marketing application or to inform final device design. • The Center for Neuroscience and Regenerative Medicine (CNRM), a collaborative intramural federal program between the USU (DoD) and NIH to study TBI and PTS, has released a funding opportunity (FOA # VP-18-005) in which they invite extramural researchers to collaborate with Intramural researchers to address the following priorities:
Prioritized order of programmatic relevance will be as follows:
1) Interventional trials in military TBI patients or with direct relevance to military TBI patients.
2) Interventional trials in animal models with direct relevance to military TBI.
3) Planning and technical development grants in preparation for interventional trials in military TBI patients or with direct relevance.

• Job Opportunity: Director, National Institute of Biomedical Imaging and Bioengineering (Application due date: February 22, 2018). The National Institutes of Health (NIH) in Bethesda, Maryland, the world’s premiere biomedical research institution, is seeking applications from exceptional candidates for the exciting position of Director, National Institute of Biomedical Imaging and Bioengineering (NIBIB). NIBIB’s mission is to improve health by leading the development and accelerating the application of new biomedical technologies. The Institute is committed to integrating the physical sciences and engineering with the life sciences to advance basic research and medical care.

The Director provides the leadership and management oversight to a staff of approximately 100 employees who conduct and support research and development of new biomedical imaging and bioengineering technologies and techniques to fundamentally improve the detection, treatment, and prevention of disease; supporting related research in the physical, mathematical and computational sciences; and encouraging multidisciplinary technology research and development. He/she sets the research funding priorities for the NIBIB by working with the extramural research community, research advocates, the extramural program divisions and offices with grant portfolios, and the intramural research divisions, to undertake initiatives and support research that leads to the accomplishment of key scientific priorities. The NIBIB Director manages an annual budget of approximately $357 million.
